So today I changed the colour of our blog. I changed it because our website recently had a colour change to Blue and Black. Now the blog matches our shop.
You may be wondering why did I change it? Well, I changed it because I found that blue and black looks more professional and trustworthy, in comparison to green and red. I suppose it looks less Christmassy too!
I read up on the psychology of colour and business to see if we could improve things. Blue is a very trustworthy colour that is used a lot for selling. Murphy wasn’t sure of the changes I had made and it took us a while to get used to how different things looked.
However, yesterday (after a couple months) we had our first sale!
I was so excited because it was validation that all the recent updates I had been making had actually worked.
I didn’t just change our colour theme. I also added links at the bottom of each product. This is so customers can quickly find links to pages with more info on things like Shipping, FAQ or Special Offers.
It turns out I had also forgotten to add Google product attributes, but that’s a back end thing to do with Google Merchant Centre. It just helps Google to list our products properly. You can’t see it on the shop itself.
The best thing about our first sale was it was Murphy’s design he did for Father’s Day last year.
Our website host www.freewebstore.com sent us an email to congratulate us on the first sale! And I decided to print a copy to put on the wall as part of our ‘vision board’ to encourage us to keep going.
I do really recommend freewebstore for hosting if your looking to set up a shop online too. They are far better than the American ones like Shopify. They are British, as are we. They are excellent quality of service and they have a facebook group to help look after their people.
